Steely Dan

Kumiko and I are not, of course, against nature. But we do listen to a lot of Steely Dan.

For me, their ‘Two Against Nature’ and the follow-up ‘Everything Must Go’ bring back memories of road trips around Oahu with our two boys, then elementary school-aged. ‘Everything Must Go’ came out in 2003, the year we left Hawai’i and moved back to the mainland, and the song’s lyrics, about closing down a company after many years in business, remind me of downsizing, tossing stuff before our big move.

“The sky, the moon, good food and the weather, first-run movies… Does anybody get lucky twice?” Good nostalgia.
